Baisakhi (Vaisakhi) is a spring harvest festival celebrated in the northern Indian state of Punjab and some other parts of India. It is usually celebrated on April 13th or 14th every year, depending on the Sikh calendar. The festival marks the beginning of the Sikh New Year and is considered one of the most important festivals for Sikhs. (Baisakhi Wishes and Quotes)

Baisakhi Wishes and Quotes

The origins of Baisakhi can be traced back to the year 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, established the Khalsa Panth (community of the pure) at Anandpur Sahib. On this day, Guru Gobind Singh organized a special congregation, called the Khalsa Sajna Divas, where he baptized five Sikhs and declared them the first members of the Khalsa.

Apart from being a religious festival for Sikhs, Baisakhi is also celebrated as a harvest festival in Punjab. The farmers thank God for the bountiful harvest and pray for good crops in the upcoming year. The celebrations usually include the traditional Punjabi folk dance, Bhangra, and the Gidda dance performed by women. People dress up in traditional Punjabi attire and enjoy a feast of delicious Punjabi cuisine.

In addition to Punjab, Baisakhi is also celebrated in other parts of India, such as Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The festival is known by different names in different regions. For example, in Assam, it is called Rongali Bihu, while in Tamil Nadu, it is celebrated as Puthandu.
